A senior at Fraser Heights Secondary, Derick is beyond thrilled to spark new passions in Model UN and empower delegates as the Secretary-General of SurreyMUN 2019. Having joined this thrilling endeavour in the tenth grade, Derick’s participation in Model UN will remain as the highlight of his high school career for the rest of his life. Since the first time he shyly raised his placard in the human rights council, Derick has garnered some of his best friends and most valuable life lessons through his experiences as a delegate, staff, and Secretariat member. When not attempting to decipher the hieroglyphics Derick calls his class notes, he can be found on the badminton court, fiddling with code, and celebrating the return of the Clone Wars. As the Secretary-General, Derick envisions a day filled with exhilarating debate, inspiring leadership, and lasting joy.
Chief of Staff
Jasper Mai is a senior at Fraser Height’s Secondary and is beyond honoured to serve as the Chief of Staff at SurreyMUN 2019. Intrigued by the fruitful discussions and variety of genuine personalities in the Model United Nations scene, he attended his first conference three years ago. From raising his placard thrice that weekend, Jasper has since been captivated continuously by the MUN community and is grateful for the confidence and friendships that have blossomed as a result. When he is not participating in or chairing a moderated caucus, Jasper can be found exercising his passion for badminton, spiking a volleyball, or sometimes dwindling in the confusing world of debate. As the Chief of Staff, Jasper is excited to showcase the tremendous staff team of SurreyMUN 2019 and looks forward to working alongside them to present an unforgettable experience for the hundreds of delegates in attendance.
Katherine is a grade 12 student at Crofton House School and is ecstatic to serve as the Director-General at SurreyMUN 2019. She’s been in her school’s MUN club since grade 6 and delegated her first conference in grade 7; joining MUN was truly one of her best decisions. She’s been quite active in the MUN community since then and wishes to create an exceptional experience for delegates. Whether you’re a first-time delegate or a seasoned veteran, Katherine hopes that you can grow, both as an individual and a delegate at SurreyMUN. In his almost non-existent free time, you can find Katherine playing Ultimate Frisbee and basketball, or surfing the web for random pieces of information. Katherine looks forward to seeing all delegates at SurreyMUN 2019.
The frigid air embraces the sepulchral city as this season of evanescence reaches its luminous apex. Although the wintry air may be cold, there’s a warm welcome waiting for you at SurreyMUN 2019! As your Deputy-Secretary-General, Nick Young is pleased to bring you a most magnificent iteration of the conference. His own Model UN experience invariably features posing as an NGO worker in multiple committees, scrambling to complete resolutions late at night, and guest speaking as unlikely people. Nick wishes all delegates the best at SurreyMUN, and hopes to see you there!
Under-Secretary-General of Committees
Currently a senior attending Fraser Heights Secondary, Eli is delighted to serve as your Under Secretary General of Committees for Surrey Model United Nations 2019. Eli’s career in Model United Nations first began as a shy and introverted 10th grader that barely raised his placard during first committee session. Ever since, riding the highs and lows, he has fallen in love with the community that has helped shape his highschool experience. During his free time, when Eli isn’t at the mercy of his directors, he can be seen eating a certain type of bread with his friends. As it is his last year in highschool, Eli hopes to make Surrey Model United Nations a great and memorable experience for all delegates!
Under-Secretary-General of Marketing
Linda is a senior at Crofton House School and is ecstatic to be serving as USG Marketing at SurreyMUN 2019. Ever since her first conference as an unsure eighth-grader, she has learned to appreciate the value of diplomacy and international relations. After many lengthy committee sessions, Linda has been inspired by the innovative ideas that come from collaborating with fellow delegates. She greatly cherishes the friendships she has formed in the MUN community and is grateful for everything she’s learned from those around her. Through these experiences, Linda has learned how to effectively public speak, persuasively negotiate, and critically problem-solve. Outside of her participation in Model UN, she can be found trying out new restaurants with friends, studying (or procrastinating, depending on the day) at a local coffee shop, or sporadically creating new playlists on Spotify. Linda looks forward to meeting all of SurreyMUN 2019’s delegates and hopes that this year’s conference is both enriching and entertaining.
Under-Secretary-General of Conference
Alex is a senior attending Port Moody Secondary School in the International Baccalaureate Programme. After being introduced to Model United Nations in his early grade 9 years, Alex was instantly captivated by its rigour in research and passionate debates. Three years later, Alex is excited to serve as the Under-Secretary-General of Conference for SurreyMUN 2019! Outside his involvement in Model United Nations, Alex can be found indulging himself in the realm (or perhaps a bottomless abyss) of mathematics, suffering from existential angst arising from philosophical thoughts, hiking for scenery, searching for more ways to automate his life through programming, and digging for the ball on the volleyball court. With advancements in delegate experience, staff training, and secretariat organization, SurreyMUN 2019 will no doubt be its best iteration yet.
Under-Secretary-General of Sponsorships
Audrea Wang is currently a junior at Port Moody Secondary and is honoured to be serving as USG of Logistics at SurreyMUN 2019. After attending her first conference in Grade 9, Audrea was immediately drawn to the world of Model United Nations by the fiery discussions about international affairs and the drafting of potential solutions to real-world problems. Having attended numerous conferences, Audrea has come to gain not only invaluable public speaking and critical thinking skills, but also a global mindset that has broadened her perspective of the world. Outside of Model United Nations, Audrea also participates in a number of debate tournaments, plays the cello, and endorses herself in journalism. Audrea is looking forward to a successful SurreyMUN 2019 and can’t wait to meet all the delegates!
Under-Secretary-General of Delegate Affairs
Stephanie is a junior at Richmond Christian Secondary School and beyond excited to serve as USG of Delegate Affairs at SurreyMUN 2019. When recalling her first conference in Grade 9, she vividly remembers an experience filled with fast-paced debate and indignant speeches that opened her eyes to the world of international relations. Her passion for public speaking and politics has grown since, leading her to pursue competitive debate and volunteer for local political campaigns. When not involved in Model UN, she enjoys writing poetry, indoor gardening, cooking, working for literary magazines, and coaching for Vancouver Debate Academy. She can usually be found hiding in coffee shops, trying to convince herself she’s being productive. Stephanie looks forward to meeting everyone and cannot wait for an unforgettable conference in February!
Under-Secretary-General of Sponsorships
Jennifer is currently a grade 11 student attending Fraser Heights Secondary School and is beyond thrilled to be serving as the Under-Secretary-General of Sponsorships for SurreyMUN 2019. Ever since her first MUN conference in grade 9, she has been mesmerized by the fascinating realm of global issues, eloquent debates, and the supportive community of like-minded individuals. While not consumed in MUN activities, Jennifer can be found volunteering for non-profits, buried under heaps of science notes, catching the sunset on evening runs, or hunting for new dessert cafes with her friends. As a member of the Secretariat team, Jennifer hopes to make SurreyMUN a memorable and enriching experience for all attendees!
